Vegas Golden Knights Advances to 2nd Stanley Cup After Win Over Dallas Stars
The Stars season came to an end on Monday. Dallas won two games against Vegas Golden Knights but was overpowered by 6-0 by the Vegas team who apparently didn’t want to enter game seven. The Golden Knights advanced in six games and will now play the Stanley Cup Final facing Florida Panthers.
Coach Pete DeBoer said that Golden Knights played a perfect knockout game and deserved to win.
Vegas turned into the higher team in Game 1, and even though Dallas pressured additional time, Vegas nevertheless won. The Stars were better in Game 2, but the Golden Knights rallied and won again in overtime. Coach DeBoer said that Dallas "self-destructed" in game 3 when Benn got a sport misconduct and two game suspension as he cross checked on Mark Stone and eventually Vegas took 3-0 lead.
The Stars bounced in Game 4 and 5 but lost in Game 6. A part of the trouble was Dallas' lack of attention and execution, but also Vegas was motivated as they didn’t want to enter a Game 7. Forward Tyler Seguin said that they had the energy to beat them but they were hard and had the looks and deserved to win.
Vegas scored fast in several games and took a 1-0 lead at just 3:41 into Game 6. The first goal was taken by William Carrier after a hard-working play. William Karlsson hit the second goal just seven minutes later leading Golden Knights with 2-0. At the 14-minutes, Keegan Kolesar made it 3-0. The Stars did a good job facing Vegas but Vegas was the dominant.
Forward Joe Pavelski said that they didn’t get the start they wanted and he will take some of the blame as a team. He said “Give them credit as they were hungry and ready to play”.
Goaltender Jake Oettinger saved 23 shots out of 29. DeBoer said he alone can’t win the game and he was in an awful situation as he ended the season like that.
Dallas Stars finished with 108 points this season. Players like Miro Heiskanen, Jason Robertson, Benn and Roope Hintz scored their best.
DeBoer said that he really felt bad for his team because the time, energy and commitment they have put, it shouldn’t have ended that way.
